On the heels of a perceived backfire in chapter 5, Moses and the Israelites quickly fall into despair that God's plan for rescue and redemption had failed. We come to learn in chapter 6 that the reason for their disbelief and disappointment was based on a misunderstanding of who God is. They believed God was almighty and powerful, but they couldn't grasp the idea that He is faithful. We'll see God reassure Moses and the Israelites – as well as us – that the hope of our deliverance rests on a renewed understanding of God's true name, "Yahweh" – the covenant-keeping God who not only makes promises of redemption, but fully keeps them.
